Why teams choose us for Umbraco migrations

Umbraco 13 to 17 is not a project you want to hand to a generalist. The upgrade includes a fundamental back office architecture shift, breaking-changes in custom code, and package-by-package compatibility work. Specialist depth is what separates a clean 8-week delivery from a painful 20-week one.

How our depth shows up in your project

    Specialists, Not Generalists

We are not a general .NET agency that occasionally touches Umbraco. Umbraco is what we do, every day, across every industry we serve. The depth shows up in the things you don't see fewer surprises in discovery, faster resolution when something does go wrong, and architectural decisions that hold up over years.

    MVP-Led Delivery

There are roughly 50 Umbraco MVPs in the world. We have 2 on the team along with 15+ Umbraco certified developers. That means your migration architecture decisions get reviewed by the same people who help shape the Umbraco platform itself not someone reading docs for the first time.

    Real Migration Track Record

We have delivered more then 50+ including Umbraco 8 to 13, 10 to 13, and 13 to 17 migrations across industries eCommerce, SaaS, enterprise B2B, non-profit, and government. We know where the breaking changes hide and how to handle them cleanly.

    Frequently Asked Questions

Do I have to upgrade through Umbraco 14, 15, and 16?

No. Umbraco supports a direct LTS-to-LTS upgrade path. You can go straight from Umbraco 13 to Umbraco 17, all intermediate migrations are applied automatically.

How long does a typical Umbraco 13 to 17 migration take?

For most mid-sized sites with moderate customization, 4 to 6 weeks end to end including discovery, build, UAT, and cutover. Heavily customized enterprise platforms run longer (8 to 12 weeks). Simple sites with minimal customization can be completed in 2 to 3 weeks.

What's the biggest risk in this migration?

Custom backoffice extensions. The Umbraco backoffice moved from AngularJS to a modern Web Components architecture in v14, which means any custom property editors, dashboards, or backoffice UI you have will need rebuilding. The discovery phase exists specifically to surface and scope this work before it becomes a problem mid-build.

Can I just stay on Umbraco 13 with extended support?

You can buy extended support directly from Umbraco, but this is meant as a bridge, not a destination. Extended support keeps security patches flowing while you complete a migration that's already in flight. Using it as an indefinite strategy means paying a premium to defer a problem that gets harder every month.

What if my third-party packages don't have v17 versions?

Our discovery audit identifies this early. Most actively-maintained packages have v17 releases or roadmap commitments. For unmaintained or niche packages, we evaluate three options: replace with a maintained alternative, contribute v17 support upstream, or rebuild the functionality natively. We've handled all three.

Will my content come across cleanly?

Yes. Umbraco's migration tooling handles the database schema and content migration automatically when going LTS-to-LTS. The work that needs human judgment is on the code side, custom logic, property editors, integrations.

Do you work with international clients?

Yes. We deliver Umbraco migrations across many global clients including UK, US, Europe, Australia, Middle East etc. Our team is set up for distributed delivery with overlapping working hours.

Why should I choose a Gold Partner over a generalist .NET agency?

Specialist partners reduce risk in three ways: (1) faster, more accurate scoping because we've seen your situation before; (2) fewer architectural mistakes because we know how Umbraco actually wants to be used; (3) better long-term maintainability because we don't write workarounds for problems that have native solutions. The cost of getting this wrong with a generalist team usually exceeds the savings.
